The research team led by Yu Guangping from the Shenyang Institute of Automation in Guangzhou of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has achieved significant results in using refined intelligent control technology to reprocess industrial wastewater.

The Shenyang Institute of Automation in Guangzhou of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which was set up in Guangzhou's Nansha district in 2011, has been exploring the technical needs in upgrading major industries, such as electronic manufacturing, textile printing and dyeing, shipbuilding, as well as power batteries.

The core technology in the refined intelligent control of industrial wastewater developed by Yu's group, which has been put into operation in more than 30 companies in China, won the second prize of the 2019 Guangdong Technological Invention Award at the Guangdong Science & Technology Innovation Conference in Guangzhou on March 25.

In order to reduce the cost of reprocessing printing and dyeing wastewater, the group has applied big data technologies and advanced control algorithms, as well as developed testing instruments at a world leading level, realizing the dynamic evaluation of microbial activity and the online inspection of multiple water quality parameters, such as chemical oxygen demand and ammonia nitrogen.

Pacific Textiles (Panyu) Holdings Limited, a large-scale textile company in Nansha, has seen an annual savings of more than 10 million yuan ($1.42 million) in reprocessing wastewater due to the group's intelligent control system and a 60 percent wastewater recycling rate.

In addition, the technology has been exported to countries alongside the Belt and Road, handling the reprocessing of 360 million metric tons of wastewater a year with a direct economic benefit of over 700 million yuan.
