On September 5th, the last day of the 4h China-Africa Youth Festival, Chinese and African Youth came together at Nansha Bird Park to plant 54 golden trumpet trees (a tree with beautiful bright yellow blossoms), representing 53 African countries and the African Union, to witness the development of China-Africa friendships.

A deciduous tree, originally native to Brazil, the golden trumpet tree changes with the seasons. "It implies that the world is colorful, that culture is diverse, and that the pursuit of peace and development is shared by us all", said Ouyang Jiangxuan, deputy director general of the Guangdong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Wale Oloko, Consul-General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hopes that the trees will be nurtured and grow to become huge trees similar to the African baobab, reflecting the strong bond between the continent and China.

As rainy a day as it was, it couldn’t dampen the spirits of youths. With a spade in the hand they were cheering and laughing as they planted the trees. The African youngster also burst into shouts of joy, saying "visit my country".

Brahim Hmeida comes from Mauritania, "Guangdong is a great place with nice infrastructure. The buldings are really impressive with incredible engineering. It's beautiful with very humble and hospitable people.”

Hanya Sliem, a sophomore studying Chinese at Ain Shams University in Cairo, likes the friendly spirit she has witnessed in Guangdong. “Actually, it's very much like in Egypt. They take care of their guests a lot”, she said.

When sharing her impressions of Guangdong, Sliem mentioned three key points for her are “trees, nature and the kindness of people”, before going on to add, “If you are a foreigner, and you are coming to China, you must definitely come to Guangdong”.
