The cold wave brought rain and even snow to Lianzhou, Qingyuan from February 15th to 16th, which was the new year’s first snowfall in the province, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Service.

Across the province continuous rain is drawing to an end while the cold temperatures are set to persist. On the 17th and 18th, the lowest temperature is expected to be a shockingly low 5℃ in Guangzhou and minus 3℃ in some mountainous areas, with frost in some cities and counties of the mid-northern Guangdong.

Over 60 cities and counties across the province have released orange alerts. China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Five-day forecast for Guangdong

It is forecast to be cloudy with sunny spells over the next three days, with chilly temperatures to linger province-wide. There are lows of between 0℃-4℃ expected in both the northern Guangdong and the northern part of the Pearl River Delta region, 7℃-11℃ in Zhanjiang, Maoming, and minus 3℃～5℃ in some mountainous areas.

Northerly winds are expected on the 17th, with strong gale-force gusts.

Seven-day forecast for Guangzhou

The low will occur on the 18th, of 4-7℃ in Guangzhou, with a chance of colder temperatures still in the hillier parts of northern districts.

Temperatures are expected to gradually climb with cloudy weather starting from the 19th. Gale-force winds of Levels 7-8 will persist across the port areas.
