First phase of Huangpu Tram Line 1 to open to traffic in July
Update: 2020-04-02     Source: lifeofguangzhou.com

Huangpu Tram Line 1 in Guangzhou's Huangpu district, which is slated to begin service this year, will run west to east from Xiangxue to Yonghe and include 19 stations. The 14.4-kilometer journey should take 30 minutes.

The 19 stations are Xiangxue, International Talent City, Luogang Bus Terminal, Shimin Square, No. 2 High School, Shuixi, Junfu Lu, Shuixi Bei, Experimental High School, Changping, Qiangdong, Changlingju Primary School, Lingtou, Sanatorium, Lingfu Cheliangduan, Xianjiang, Xianjiang Litchi Park, Huangqi Mountain, and Yonghe Xinfeng. (The station names are temporary and subject to change.)

Located in the eastern part of Guangzhou, Huangpu is linked to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Nansha port, and major cities throughout the Pearl River Delta such as Shenzhen and Foshan via expressways and light rail networks.

The first phase of Tram Line 1 started its trial run on March 15, running between the Experimental School of Beijing Normal University (北师大实验学校) in Guangzhou and Yonghe Xinfeng (永和新丰). Covering 7.9 kilometers, the initial phase includes 11 stations and three elevated walkways.

The trial run — without passengers — is set at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour at present, and the speed will be gradually elevated to 70 kilometers per hour after putting into operation.

No passengers are allowed to enter the tram platform during the trial run. Pedestrians and vehicles are not allowed to enter the tram lane without authorization, nor stop at the yellow grid area or enter the tram track area.

Since the charging rail at the top of the tram station has 900 volts of direct current, certain activities are forbidden, including flying kites, setting off fireworks and using aircraft along the line, to avoid touching the charging rail or interfere with train operation.

It is expected that the first phase of the tram line will start initial operation by July, and the whole line will be open to traffic by the end of this year.

Once the tram line is fully open to the public, passengers will be able to transfer to Guangzhou Metro lines 21, 7, and 6 at Changping, Shuixi and Xiangxue stations, respectively.
