Over the past several days, a number of reopened scenic areas in Guangzhou issued announcements that they will temporarily close again.

Canton Tower, Guangzhou's most iconic landmark, announced last Friday that its indoor sightseeing venues such as the Cloud and Star Observation Decks had again been closed with a full refund available for those with prior bookings. Its outdoor sightseeing areas and adventure facilities at the top of Canton Tower, including the Bubble Tram and the Sky Drop, remain open as usual.

On the same day, a number of other attractions and museums released notices of temporary closure as well, including the Guangdong Science Center, the Guangzhou Museum and the Museum of the Nanyue King of Western Han Dynasty.

This is a response to the notice jointly issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and National Health Commission last Monday, requesting attractions to only open outdoor areas, with indoor venues to remain closed for the time being, and daily maximum person flow not to exceed 30% of normal capacity.

As of April 18th, a total of 48 attractions and 13 museums graded A and above in Guangzhou have already closed again or will soon close again either entirely or partially, according to the official of the Culture, Tourism, Radio and TV Administration of Guangzhou Municipality.

All attractions open to the public require tourists to make a real-name reservation for tickets online in advance, tour the site during the specific time period designated by management, provide their ‘Suikang code’ (穗康码) while picking up their tickets or entering the scenic area, and have their temperature checked upon arrival.

Currently, outdoor parts of tourist sites, and cultural venues that do not belong to the tourism category: I.e. hotels, libraries and culture centers remain open to the public as long as COVID-19 prevention and control work measures are implemented strictly.

If you are planning to visit an attraction, please check their official WeChat account or website for updates to avoid disappointment.
