Advanced technologies applied to ensure students safety in Nansha
Update: 2020-04-30     Source: chinadaily.com.cn

The system integrating remote infrared temperature measurement and facial recognition is able to measure students' temperature within two to three seconds.

More than 10,000 junior and high school graduating students in Guangzhou's Nansha district resumed classes on April 27, being the first batch of students in the district to return to school since the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in January.

Advanced technologies like infrared temperature scanners and facial recognition have been applied in local high schools to ensure the safety of students and teaching staff members.

Huang Zhiyuan, principle of Nansha Qilin High School, said that the anti-COVID-19 epidemic system used in the school was donated by a local Nansha company, which integrates remote infrared temperature measurement functions with its smart terminal for facial recognition.

The system is able to measure students' temperatures within two to three seconds, reducing the time that students have to spend waiting to enter the school.

"It only took 40 minutes to measure temperature for all 350 students this morning, saving us 20 minutes more than expected," added Huang.

An online platform offering live streaming on students' dining conditions has been put into operation at Guangzhou Nansha No 1 Middle School, allowing students' parents to see the real-time conditions of the school's canteen, such as the dining hall and the kitchen.

It is expected that the application of the online platform will be duplicated in all school canteens in the district by June.
