Further policies will be implemented to help Hong Kong and Macao citizens buying medical insurance in cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Healthcare Security Administration of Guangdong Province announced on July 1.
Employers will have to ensure that their employees from Hong Kong and Macao are covered by basic medical insurance for urban workers, in accordance with the relevant regulations of the social insurance law.
Hong Kong and Macao students studying in universities, scientific research institutes, secondary vocational schools and technician training schools in Guangzhou will participate in the basic medical insurance system for urban and rural residents, meaning they'll enjoy the same treatment as students from the Chinese mainland.
People from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan holding mainland residence permits and living on the Chinese mainland have been able to participate in basic old-age insurance and basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents since January 1, 2020 as long as they are unemployed.
