The 2020 Guangzhou Summer Civic Culture Season invites residents to celebrate and share this summer through five themed sections with various activities to be held both online and offline over the coming six months.

After decades of development, the Guangzhou Summer Civic Culture Season has become a popular cultural brand and won the honor of ‘Cultural Innovation Project’ presented by the National Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Unusually, this year’s Season will present Guangzhou’s cultural vitality and tourism charm in multiple dimensions through both city tours and displaying people’s cultural works in attractions across the city.

People’s Stage

On the People’s Stage, every ordinary individual has an opportunity to show themselves and win applause. This section mainly includes the People’s Cultural Creation Tour, the 2020 Guangzhou Youth Orchestra Concert, the 5th Guangzhou Chorus Festival for the Disabled, and other themed activities at the Guangzhou Cultural Center.

Colorful Contests

Guangzhou will host a series of competitions to enrich people’s daily life. They are the 5th Square Dance Competition, the 3rd People’s Original Dance Competition, the 4th Chinese Opera and Drama Competition, the 3rd Chinese Folk Songs and Instruments Competition, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cantonese Singing Competition, the 5th Chorus Festival, and more.

Lingnan Culture

The "Lingnan Culture" section includes folklore performances on the Double Seventh Festival—China’s traditional Valentine’s Day, the Conghua Intangible Heritage Culture and Art Week, and the 2020 China Pan Gu King's Birthday Folk Culture Festival.

Pan Gu was the creator of the universe in Chinese mythology. The commemoration of Pan Gu aims to further enhance people's awareness of intangible cultural heritage protection as well as to inherit and carry forward his spirit of innovation and daring to be the first.

Fashion and Classics

Lectures for public good with the theme "Meeting Art" will be held at the Guangzhou Library every Saturday afternoon during the summer vacation. The upcoming lectures will discuss how fashion and classics collide and generate sparks in the field of art.

Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition

The "Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition" section contains the 2020 Guangzhou Excellence Painting, Calligraphy and Photography Exhibition and the People’s Art Calligraphy and Photography Exhibition. The latter will be held to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the founding of China.
