Those who often stroll along the Pearl River may notice the construction work underway between the Ersha Island and the southern bank of the Pearl River. Actually, what's being constructed is the first landscape footbridge over the Pearl River in Guangzhou.

Some 100 meters away from the Guangzhou Bridge, the new footbridge is planned to stretch 436 meters and connect Ersha Island with the southern bank of the Pearl River on Yuejiang Xilu, according to the bridge's design scheme.

As part of the development project of the south square of Canton Tower, the bridge is designed to enhance the connectivity of both banks, facilitate visitor flows and drive the development of surrounding areas, including the Guangzhou International Media Harbour, Party Pier and the Haixinsha Island.
Design sketch of the footbridge Once completed in June 2021, it will allow visitors to take in the view of Zhujiang New Town, the Canton Tower and riverside skyscrapers all in one walk across the river. It's also expected to become a popular tourist attraction and boost the Pearl River cruise and night-time economy around the area.
