The 4th Global Intelligent Industry Conference & Exposition as well as the Global Innovative Technology Exchange Conference kicked off at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center on November 22.

Organized by the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering, the three-day event invited more than 500 high-profile scientists, scholars and entrepreneurs to shed light into the development of the intelligent industry and participate in technology exchanges meetings.

“Guangzhou is an ‘engine’ to drive the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The government has been fostering the ICT industry and connecting it with the development of the manufacturing industry,” Gao Yuyao, Vice Secretary General of Guangzhou Municipal Government, addressed at the opening ceremony, “according to urban planning, three major areas covering an area of 81 square kilometers will focus on the development of AI and digital economy. The three areas are respectively located in Pazhou (Haizhu District), International Financial Town (Tianhe District) and Yuzhu (Huangpu).”

Xu Wenwei, President of Huawei’s Institute of Strategic Research, gave a presentation on innovation and digital economy. He highlighted three characteristics of the future world of intelligence, that is, “all things sensing, all things connected and all things intelligent”. “These characteristics rely on basic technologies including cloud computing, 5G, big data and AI, which are fundamental to our digital economy. Linking these basic technologies with industries is the core to maximize opportunities during the development of digital economy.”

Xu added infrastructure construction is the key to seizing opportunities. “China should contribute to long-term research on CPU, control systems, manufacturing equipment and basic materials. We need to be more open in the research sector and embrace the global system considering the recent challenges brought by the external circumstances. Huawei hopes to cooperate with universities and research institutes to jointly build laboratories and boost technological innovation in photon industry.”

The intelligent industry exhibition covers an area of 25 thousand square meters and has more than 600 suppliers displaying products involved in the entire industrial chain. Visitors can gain knowledge about the latest technologies in such fields as drones, robots, AI, smart wearable devices and optical technologies.
