Initiated in Guangzhou and Foshan from July 1 and July 14 respectively, qualified overseas high-end and urgently needed talents working in the two cities can apply for a tax subsidy online for the excess tax paid above 15% of their taxable income in 2020. The application cut-off date of both cities is set at August 31.
According to the latest regulations, the "overseas talents" include permanent residents from Hong Kong and Macao; Taiwan residents; foreign nationals, returnees or overseas Chinese; Hong Kong residents listed in HK's Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (mostly professionals and entrepreneurs).
In addition to applying for subsidy for the 2020 tax year, qualified talents are also allowed to re-apply for subsidy for the 2019 tax year.
Eligible residents in Guangzhou may first check their tax data through "Tax E-Check Guideline for Talent in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" (粤港澳大湾区人才税e查) and then apply for GBA talent subsidy on the official website of Guangdong government.
While for Foshan residents, the one-stop governmental website called "Foshan Support Center" (佛山扶持通) would be the go-to place.
