Since August 16, Guangzhou has already tightened control over excessive honking. The traffic police focus on busy roads as well as road works areas by day, and bustling streets at night.

Q&A

Why do we need a honking ban covering the whole city?

Guangzhou has enforced honking bans in some areas since 1997, which significantly reduce noise pollution and improve the environment. Therefore, according to the requirements of people and authorities, Guangzhou decided to impose a ban of a wider range.

What are the special occasions?

1.When a vehicle comes close to a sharp turn or the end of an upward slope where the view is blocked.

2.When an emergency happens or when a vehicle is trying to overtake.

3.Police cars, fire engines, ambulances, engineering rescue vehicles, or vehicles that are authorized to use sirens, are allowed to honk horns or use sirens on an urgent mission.

What about the punishment?

Those who violate the rules would be fined RMB 150, but no penalty points will be endorsed on the license.
