Guangzhou, as well as other 27 cities in China, will put digital driver license into practice from September 1 to streamline public services, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
As Guangzhou traffic police said in the briefing on August 26,a digital driver license will have the same nationwide legal effect as the original one, which means presenting a digital license would be a perfect substitute in most cases except for confiscation.
Drivers can apply for a digital license through the official mobile app of (交管12123), only if the original driver license remains valid.
Also, if the driver license is renewed for changes in quasi-driving vehicles, license expiration date, or registration authorities, drivers need to apply for a new digital license.
On the app "Traffic Management 12123", applicants are required to upload suitable profile pictures from their phones, and receive due scrutiny before getting their hands on digital licenses.
In addition, 218 Chinese cities including Guangzhou will make available the registration of secondhand car remote transactions from September 1. And to provide more detailed information for people involved in traffic accidents, Guangzhou has enabled online search of accident information – scene pictures, transcripts, and results, etc.
