Guangzhou's Panyu District rated as national cultural export base

Recently, Guangzhou's Panyu District was listed as one of the new national cultural export bases. Up to now, Guangzhou has become one of the few cities that own two cultural export bases. Back in June 2018, the city's Tianhe District was included in the first group of national cultural export bases.

Panyu highlights a variety of competitive cultural products for export such as jewelry design, lighting and sounds, game devices and online live streaming. In 2019, the region gained up to 8 billion US dollars in the field of cultural exports, with nearly 3,500 pieces of enterprise-owned independent intellectual property rights. Moreover, it has carried out businesses with more than 60 countries along the Belt and Road, its cultural products and services have also been exported to over 150 countries and regions.

Panyu is the largest jewelry-manufacturing base in China, serving as a hub of global renowned jewelry brands. Over the past three years, its annual import and export volume of jewelry industry has been up to 50 billion RMB (around 7.7 billion US dollars), accounting for 30% and 70% of the market shares in the world and in Hong Kong & Macao SARs respectively.

The district also actively exports locally-produced games. After 30 years of development, its recreation equipment has accounted for 60% and 20% of the market shares nationwide and worldwide respectively.

Panyu District is one of the earliest regions to develop lighting and sound industry in China, with over 600 core enterprises and nearly 120,000 employees.

Enjoying a history of over 2,200 years, Panyu District is known as an important birthplace of Lingnan culture as well as famous hometown for overseas Chinese.

So far, Guangzhou has established a number of brands with international influence in the fields of digital creativity, animation and games, films and television, jewelry design as well as lighting and sound.

Well-known apps such as music player Kugou and UC browser have actively expanded their overseas markets. Digital creation corporations including Mobvista and Guangzhou Nine Digital Technology Co., Ltd. are stretching their global markets. Internet companies like Netease and 37 Interactive Entertainment are exporting their games worldwide. In 2020, the cultural services exported by key game enterprises in the city reached nearly 200 million US dollars.
