Guangzhou's Liwan District, Haizhu District, and Zengcheng District have started to facilitate booster shots for fully-vaccinated residents.
The third-dose jabs can be given to residents who have already received two doses of either the Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccines, and 180 days have passed since their last shot.
Foreign nationals who have received two vaccine shots can also register for booster shots using their passports and other supporting documents, such as valid residence permits, in Liwan and Haizhu. Appointments are not required to be made in these districts for the shots.
Foreign nationals in Guangzhou can receive booster shots at the Liwan Central Hospital of Guangzhou, the Liwan District People's Hospital of Guangzhou, Guangzhou Liwanqu Zhongyiyiyuan (Liwan District TCM Hospital), and the Guangdong Second Provincial Central Hospital.
Booster shots enable the efficacy of vaccines to remain high for an extended period of time and increase antibody levels in those who receive them.
According to research conducted by Sinopharm and Sinovac, booster shots can increase antibody levels in the body by 10-30 times, and antibody levels continue to remain high after six months. They also help guard against virus variants, including the Delta variant.
Research has also concluded that booster shots produce no serious adverse reactions.
