Update: 2022-01-17     Source: Newsgd.com

The Knowledge City Cup – the Greater Bay Area Lindau Young Scientists’ Award (Economy) was held on January 16, 2022 in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC), a bilateral urban project located in Huangpu District of Guangzhou.

The competition aims to recruit talented young economists in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to participate in the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences in August 2022.

Five young economists passed the selection and will be nominated to represent the GBA in the upcoming Lindau Meeting, where they will gain the chance to exchange thoughts, perspectives, and questions with Nobel Laureates and their counterparts worldwide.

The 5 nominees are from South China University of Technology, Jinan University, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Their research fields cover international trade, regional industry, global economic governance, and behavioral finance.

“We hope this can be a platform where young scholars in the GBA have the opportunity to learn from and have in-depth communication with Nobel Laureates so as to keep track of the frontiers in science and technology studies,” stated Zhong Mingjin, Secretary-General of Guangdong Education Association for International Exchange. He expects the universities in Guangdong will be a channel of communication between Nobel Laureates and local students.

Li Jinjun, Head of the International Exchange and Cooperation Division of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, believes this competition can improve GBA’s attractiveness to global professionals. The development of a talent pool plays a key role for the region’s plan to become an influential innovation and technology hub worldwide.

According to Nikolaus Turner, Managing Director and Member of the Executive Board of the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, for the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences, 19 Nobel Laureates have accepted the invitation; it is now expecting young scientists from about 100 countries to attend the face to face meetings.

The CSGKC and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings established cooperation in 2019, in a bid to build the CSGKC into an innovation hub of the GBA and a platform for young scientists from China and abroad. The first Knowledge City Cup – Greater Bay Area Lindau Young Scientists’ Award was held in October 2021. Five young chemists were nominated for participants in the 71th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Chemistry).
