Gustav Mahler is regarded as one of the most outstanding representatives in the field of German and Austrian musical culture from the second half of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. In a survey of conductors conducted by BBC Music Magazine, Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in D minor was rated as one of the ten greatest symphonies in history.

Since its foundation in December, 2015, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra has attracted more than 90 excellent concert performers who have graduated from various prestigious conservatories of music in the world. Yu Feng, the master of the Central Conservatory of Music, now serves as the art director and the chief conductor of the Orchestra.
