Exhibition featuring Guangdong arts and crafts underway in Guangzhou
Update: 2021-11-08     Source: Newsgd.com

Canton porcelain, Cantonese embroidery, jade carvings, and ceramics... From November 5 to 14, you can see various masterpieces of these traditional arts and crafts at the 5th Guangdong Arts and Crafts Masters Joint Exhibition held in Guangzhou.

The representative works of Zhou Chengjie, Shi Zongying, Liang Xiangzhao and Wang Xinyuan, four provincial arts and crafts masters, are on display at the exhibition. These masters have persevered in their respective fields for more than 20 years, inheriting traditions and making innovations with superb skills.

Zhou Chengjie is the municipal-level inheritor of Canton porcelain making techniques, a national intangible cultural heritage item. He studies and learns lost techniques from the exported Canton porcelains of the Thirteen Factories in the Qing Dynasty, and integrates them into modern works.

Liang Xiangzhao is the inheritor of Xicun Kiln firing techniques. He focuses on traditional pottery making as well as the protection and innovation of Xicun Kiln. In 2019, he went to the UK for cultural exchange and presented a Xicun Kiln work to the Queen as a birthday present.

Shi Zongying is good at combining the texture of jade with the modeling of traditional vessels, and his jade carving works embody the aesthetics of modern sculpture.

Wang Xinyuan combines the style of western oil painting and the traditional Cantonese embroidery technique in his works, which reflects both internationalization and the characteristics of regional culture. "Innovation is very important for the development of Cantonese embroidery", he said, "We should not only inherit traditional culture and techniques but also blend the needs of modern society."
