Come and catch a glimpse of Guangzhou’s history

Guangdong Zhuangyuan Cultural Exhibition (春风得意马蹄疾——广东状元文化展)

The Chineseimperial examinations, a civil-service examination system that lasted for 1300 years in ancient China is the longest and most influential system in Chinese history. Zhuangyuan (状元), the title given to the scholar who achieved the highest score of the imperial examination, was one of the lifelong pursuits of ancient scholars.

There are 14Zhuangyuans in Guangdong’s history, including two from the Panyu District of Guangzhou. Through the story of Guangdong’s Zhuangyuans, the Zhuangyuan culture and other parts, this exhibition systematically displays the cultural resources of imperial examination in Guangdong and presents the extraordinary trajectory of a Zhuangyuan’s life.

Guangzhou from an Archaeological Perspective (云山珠水间——考古发现的广州)

This exhibition displays 751 sets of cultural relics in chronological order. With archaeological materials, it presents the lifestyle of Guangzhou people in the pre-Qin period, the cultural exchanges and interactions with neighboring areas, the development and changes of Guangzhou city since the Qin and Han Dynasties over 2,200 years, as well as the history of continuous overseas exchanges.

Venue: Southern Han Mausoleums Museum (南汉二陵博物馆)

Time: 9:00 — 17:30 (admission closed at 17:00), long-term exhibition (closed on Mondays)

The history and culture of the Southern Han (汉风唐韵——五代南汉历史与文化)

254 sets of exhibits are on display at this exhibition. Through archaeological materials, historical documents and the existing historic relics, it showcases the history ofSouthern Han, the palace and urban construction of the capital city Xing Wang Fu (now Guangzhou), and the shape and structure as well as the unearthed cultural relics of “three mausoleums” of Southern Han, so as to present a comprehensive and true history of that age.

Guangzhou Historical Exhibition (城标·城史——广州历史陈列)

This exhibition systematically displays the cultural, customs and urban development of Guangzhou in the past five to six thousand years through nearly 1,000 cultural relics, photos and materials excavated and collected in the city.

Venue:Zhenhai Tower, Yuexiu Mountain, Guangzhou Museum (广州博物馆越秀山镇海楼展区)

Time: 9:00 — 17:30 (admission closed at 17:00), long-term exhibition (closed on Mondays)
