Schedule of the 2022 YMCG

January 22 (Saturday)   20:00 2022 YMCG Happy Gathering and Talk

January 23 (Sunday)   20:00 Closing Concert

The opening concert of YMCG was presented at the Symphony Hall of Xinghai Concert Hall on the evening of January 16. The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra (GSO) and the Guangzhou Symphony Youth Orchestra (GSYO) jointly performed excerpts from Gustav Theodor Holst's The Planets, Saint-Saëns' Carnival of Animals, and Ottorino Respighi's the Pines of Rome. Through music, three composers put forward their own opinions on the proposition of man and nature from different dimensions.

At the opening concert, Long Yu, conductor and music director of GSO, reviewed that in the past five years, young musicians from 46 cities in 21 countries have gathered in Guangzhou. "This year, although Yo-Yo Ma and I could not appear in person, the epidemic cannot stop us from holding a reunion. I hope the YMCG can bring a new spirit and show people that life will go on and music will never stop."

Yo-Yo Ma, artistic director of the YMCG, praised Guangzhou saying it is a great place. "I will never forget her enthusiasm. Our hearts are always together," he added.

On January 17, the YMCG hosted a series of outreach activities. The GSO took the Xinghai Concert Hall on the Ersha Island as its first stop to play the most beautiful music for young people. They also joined an art troupe formed by children with special needs to perform music in front of the Second Children's Palace Guangzhou in Zhujiang New Town.

In addition, the orchestra also took the beautiful Tram Haizhu Line 1, walked on the Haixin Bridge, and welcomed every resident with their passionate and famous songs.

During every year's outreach activities, musicians always walk into the city, into people's ordinary but rich inner world, and try to understand the city, awaken love, and warm their hearts.
