Museums of Special Interest

Jiang Guangnai (1887-1967), Han Chinese, a native of Dongguan, Guangdong, was once the commander of a division of the National Revolutionary Army and commander the 11th Corps of the same army. He participated in the Battle of the Central Plains and was subsequently appointed commander-in-chief of the 19th Route Army and commander of the Songhu Garrison. He is remembered for his efforts to fight Japanese invaders when the nation was at a critical moment. Under his command, the 19th Route Army alone repelled Japanese troops during the Battle of Songhu.

The former residence of Jiang Guangnai was built in 1930 and has a floor area of more than 300 square meters. It's a courtyard house typical of the Lingnan region. In 1990, Jiang's offspring placed the house under government administration, and in 1993, the house was declared a protected cultural heritage site of Guangzhou. In the late 1990s, the house with peeling walls and broken windows was classified as an "unsafe house". In 2009, the local  officials renovated the entire house and made it part of the Liwan Museum. Jiang's offspring has also donated more than 260 valuable historical objects to the museum.
