Museums of Special Interest

Donghao Stream is the only existing river passing through the urban center. It had linked the six streams with the Pearl River since the Song Dynasty, then was on the wane for a time and has taken on a new look to greet the Asian Games. The Donghao Stream Museum alongside is the first museum nationwide to place the river as the theme, becoming the "Living Record" to witness the changes of the millennium "city of water".

The Donghao Stream Museum, along the Donghao Stream, is reconstructed on basis of two old villas established during the period of the Republic of China. The museum, though not spacious, has two storeys and five exhibiting halls, A, B, C, D, and E, displaying feature exhibitions including "Tracing Dong Hao", "Cultivating Dreams in Dong Hao", "The Nirvana of the Phoenix", etc. Through the real objects, the photographs, projections, audio-visual materials, etc, the museum records and exhibits collectively the histories and cultures of Guangzhou's rivers and the achievements Donghao Stream has made in becoming the hydrophilic gallery integrating leisure, ecology and culture in the recent years.

The exhibition also displays life of the townsfolk living by the river in the old days, such as the scene of beautiful fisher maidens rowing the wooden boat to sell the fruits, or the fishermen catching fish; the merchants and shops crowded on both sides of the streets, the Zhan's Garden of great fame, the Guangdong Mint, etc. The past scene of the "old drains" where dirty water flew everywhere also recurs.
