1,200 volunteers take oath to serve Fortune Global Forum
A volunteer pledging ceremony for the upcoming Fortune Global Forum took place on November 26 at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The oath was taken simultaneously by 1,200 volunteers. The forum will be held in Guangzhou from December 6-8.

The event was hosted by the China Communist Youth League Guangzhou Municipal Committee and the volunteer service group of the 2017 Fortune Global Forum Executive Committee. Cai Chaolin, member of the standing committee of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee and director of the Executive Committee of the 2017 Fortune Global Forum and Zelda Coetzee, the project manager of the Forum and other representatives of the Guangzhou Municipal Government attended the event.

The volunteers have been categorized into 9 teams, including conference and the courtesy, news and publicity, business service, hotel and sightseeing, traffic support and security. Each team called out their own slogans at the event. After taking the oath, all 1,200 volunteers said in unison “We are ready."

The volunteer recruitment started on May 3, followed by nearly 80 selection interviews, according to Sun Zhu, chief coordinator of the volunteer service group of the forum's executive committee. Sun said 21 training sessions helped prepare volunteers for their respective roles. Eight of the 1,200 volunteers are foreigners from countries including Finland, Austria, Bangladesh and India.

Wang Lili, a foreign volunteer from Poland, said, "It's my first time to be a volunteer in China, I'm so excited.”

Ma Yiming, a foreign volunteer from Finland who studies Chinese international education at Sun Yat-sen University, said, “I feel Guangzhou is the most friendly city among the cities I've been to in China."

A senior volunteer from Bangladesh, Wu Su, observed, "Guangzhou is a city of opportunity, where a lot of entrepreneurs have emerged. Business here promotes people's lives. I'm so looking forward to the Fortune Global Forum."

Diao Ailin, deputy secretary-general of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, co-released a music video for the volunteer's song with the representatives of the volunteers. Part of the English lyrics go, "Shall we share the future, Shall we share the wisdom," embodies the openness and inclusive attitude of Guangzhou.
