The construction of the southern ring of Guangzhou–Foshan circular intercity railway (广佛南环) is expected to be completed within 2022. When finished, the new line will cut the travel time between Guangzhou South railway station and Foshan West railway station to less than 20 minutes.
The southern ring of Guangzhou–Foshan circular intercity railway is about 35 kilometers long and consists of 6 stations: Foshan West Railway Station (佛山西站), Zhangcha Station (张槎站), Shunde North Railway Station(顺德北站), Beijiao West Railway Station(北滘西站), Chencun Station(陈村站), and Panyu Station (番禺站), which is formerly known as the Guangzhou South Railway Station(广州南站).
The speed of the intercity train is estimated to be 200km/h. This line will connect with Foshan-Dongguan intercity railway at Panyu Station, once completed.
In addition, the completion of the southern section Guangzhou–Foshan circular intercity railway will realize the connection of four intercity railway lines. The other three include Foshan-Dongguan intercity railway (佛莞城际), which is still under construction and is also expected to be completed later this year, Foshan-Zhaoqing intercity railway (佛肇城际) and the Dongguan-Huizhou intercity railway (莞惠城际), the latter two already in operation.
