The Guangzhou International Bio Island Development Plan for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period was recently issued.

The plan consists of eight major items and 73 articles. It summarizes the current economic development of the island, as well as the advantages, opportunities, and challenges it faced during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period. It went on to clarify the island's goals, industrial development directions, and major economic and social development tasks for the next five years. 

This plan will provide important guidance for the bio island to fulfill its responsibilities in social management, industrial development, public services, and environmental protection.

The plan proposes that during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Huangpu district should accelerate the cultivation of high-end talents and the construction of projects in key areas such as biomedicine research and development, medical testing and inspection, stem cells, and regenerative medicine.

The plan went on to state that Huangpu should accelerate the internationalization of the island, form a biomedicine science research and industrial service base, build a life science cooperation zone in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and create a world-class biomedicine R&D center.

It is expected that by 2025, the bio island will promote international and regional cooperation in the biomedicine industry, strive to build a national laboratory for respiratory diseases, build a biomedicine and biosecurity R&D industry cluster, as well as build a core ecological and intelligent "future city" in the Greater Bay Area.
