On December 27, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China announced the recognition of Nansha District, Guangzhou as a pilot area for agricultural opening-up and cooperation.

In 2022, Nansha District achieved a total agricultural output value exceeding 12.6 billion yuan (1.77 billion US dollars), ranking first in the city for a third year in a row. Additionally, the per capita disposable income of rural residents reached 42,000 yuan.

Nansha has established a number of modern agricultural platforms, such as Nansha Modern Fishery Industrial Park, Nansha Modern Urban Agricultural Experimental Area, and Nansha Prepared Food Industrial Park.

In the future, Nansha will focus on sci-tech innovation and opening-up, while accelerating the launching of the Greater Bay Area Modern Seed Industry Research Institute, Guangzhou Nansha-South China Agricultural University Fisheries Research Institute, and Guangdong Zhongxin Breeding Project. Supportive measures for agricultural opening-up will be taken, and relevant services will be provided. In the field of the prepared food industry, the district will set up three centers for  research and development, data, and import and export respectively.
