Professor Qiu Cheng Tong, an internationally renowned mathematician and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was among the 49 foreign experts and international friends who won the inaugural Guangdong Friendship Award.
The award, established to honor foreign individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Guangdong's economic, social, and foreign exchanges, was announced on March 13.
Qiu, who has spent years devoting himself to research and education in his chosen field, is the first Chinese mathematician to receive the Fields Medal and the Marcel Grossman Award.
He recently donated several copies of his works and publications to the Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Museum and signed them. Qiu has been enthusiastically promoting China's mathematical development while helping to cultivate outstanding mathematicians in recent years. In addition, he has established numerous awards and competitions to promote scientific advancement in China.
