Guangzhou is to build 10 sports parks, renovating and constructing over 200 kilometers of fitness trails in each districts, according to a five-year plan on public fitness released by Guangzhou’s Government recently.

As stated in the plan, Guangzhou will construct fitness trails, greenways and ecological belts to increase supply of fitness facilities.

New technologies such as big data, cloud computing, 5G, and artificial intelligence will be piloted in stadiums including Tianhe Sports Center and Guangzhou Gymnasium. These venues will create a smart scene that integrates operational sports, games and watching games to enhance user experience. Services such as smart parking, seat navigation, robotic services and interactive experiences will be provided there as well.

In addition, international events will be hosted in the city such as Guangzhou Marathon, International Dragon Boat Races, “Crossing the Pearl River” swimming race and Guangzhou 100 Ultra Trail Race.

Guangzhou will also improve marathon branding and support the Tianhe Vertical Marathon, Huangpu Marathon, Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, Conghua Mountain Marathon, Guangzhou Xiaoguwei Talent Marathon and other events.

Furthermore, national fitness, events with Lingnan characteristics are also highlighted, such as Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Qigong and other traditional sports, as well as dancing lion, dragon boat, shuttlecock. In the northern area, Guangzhou will develop outdoor sports such as cycling, rock climbing and camping. In the southern coastal area, water leisure sports such as sailing, windsurfing, rowing, kayaking, and motor boats will be carried out.
