Typhoon Bailu to hit eastern Guangdong
Update: 2019-08-24     Source: Newsgd.com
According to Guangdong Meteorological Service, this year’s 11th typhoon Bailu was generated on the northwest of the Pacific Ocean on the afternoon of August 21st. It is projected to move northwest direction at the speed of 20-25 km/h and come near to eastern Guangdong.

In light of the predicted route, typhoon Bailu will make landfall in Shanwei between the midnight of August 24th and the morning of August 25th.

Rainstorm and strong wind will pummel Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Huizhou from the evening of August 24th to 26th.

As of August 23rd, most of the cities in eastern Guangdong have released blue warning of typhoon.

Guangdong has a five-tier color-coded weather warning system for typhoons with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, blue and white.

Typhoon Bailu was used to be called Haiyan, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Yolanda. It was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever recorded. On making landfall, Haiyan devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,300 people in that country alone.

The name Haiyan was retired after the 2013 season due to extensive damage and high death toll. Bailu (which means White Deer in Chinese) was chosen to replace the name Haiyan for the 2019 and future seasons.
