COVID-19 Update in Huadu District
Update: 2022-10-21     Source: Huadu District COVID-19 Control and Prevention Command Center

On October 12, many PCR test results collected at fever clinics and community test facilities came back abnormal in Huadu District. Infection control authorities of all levels acted quickly and conducted epidemiological investigations to trace the source of infection. Close contacts and secondary close contacts were soon identified, and grid-based administration measures were implemented. Controlled areas were placed under temporary lockdown measures in a timely manner while ensuring people’s access to basic services and medical assistance. All necessary measures had been taken to prevent the further spread and spillover of COVID-19, and maximum efforts had been exerted to contain the outbreak.

As of 24:00 October 19, a total number of 238 COVID-19 cases had been reported in this outbreak. All patients have been transferred to Guangzhou No.8 People’s Hospital for treatment, and there is no patient requiring intensive or critical care. As of now, 61 key sites have been identified and controlled, and 460,000 people with infection risk have been identified. Huadu District has conducted 6 rounds of PCR tests, collecting over 11.49 million samples. The routine PCR test conducted across Guangzhou has collected 71 million samples.

According to epidemiological investigation and genomic sequencing findings, the sequence of the variant detected in this outbreak is identical to the two COVID-19 patients who traveled to Guangzhou from another province during the National Day Holiday. The virus was transmitted quickly and insidiously in the initial stage, affecting many public places. Clusters found in enclosed places such as families and Internet cafes accounted for a significant proportion of the current outbreak. Experts believe the current outbreak developed quickly and there are early signs that the increase in case numbers has been curbed. In order to eradicate the outbreak as soon as possible, it is necessary to enhance control and prevention measures.

Please pay close attention to the designation of “high-, medium-, and low-risk areas” in Guangzhou and the list of exposure sites published by each district. If you have been to the key sites at specified time slots, please report to relevant authorities immediately and undergo health administration measures such as PCR tests. Travelers from another province shall strictly take three tests within three days upon arrival at Guangzhou and take subsequent health administration measures according to the instructions you have been given. We hope you can participate in the district-wide PCR tests on time, closely monitor your health status, and seek medical attention in time if you feel unwell. For residents of the controlled areas, your patience and understanding are much appreciated. We also need you to continue to take proper precautionary measures so that the outbreak can be fully contained as early as possible.
