Guangzhou took the spotlight in global tourism promotion during the "Guangzhou-TPO Night" cultural showcase held aboard a Pearl River cruise on May 14. The event was part of the 44th Executive Committee Meeting and China Regional Meeting of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO), held in Guangzhou from May 13 to 15, just ahead of the 33rd Guangzhou International Travel Fair.
As an Affiliate Member of UN Tourism, TPO has been devoted to promoting the exchange and development of the tourism industry among major cities in the Asia Pacific region. As a founding member of TPO, Guangzhou has long served as an executive committee city and continues to play a key role in the organization's development. Hosting this prestigious event allowed Guangzhou to further boost its international visibility and reputation, enhance its competitiveness in the global tourism market, and attract more international tourists and investors.
During "Guangzhou-TPO Night," delegates from TPO member cities were invited to experience one of the city's most popular attractions—the Pearl River night cruise. With the city skyline and rich Lingnan heritage as a backdrop, guests enjoyed an immersive cultural performance featuring a traditional lion dance, acrobatics, Cantonese opera, and classic Cantonese music, showcasing the vibrant essence of southern China's culture.
A promotional video highlighting Guangzhou's dynamic blend of tradition and modernity was also screened, offering attendees a glimpse into the city's evolving identity as a global tourism destination. Through this event, Guangzhou extended a warm and vivid welcome to the international community, reinforcing its role as a world-class city committed to cultural exchange and sustainable tourism development.
