Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is set to enter the era of "three terminals and five runways"! The Terminal 3 (T3) project has entered its final phase of construction and is anticipated to enter operation within the year. Concurrently, China's first open-air airport observation deck will also be opened to the public.
T3 at Baiyun International Airport features a flower-inspired design, with eight "petals" forming the shape of a "blossom". Currently, the ceiling installation within the terminal is nearing completion, while the roofing and curtain walls have been finalised. Mechanical and electrical installations are undergoing comprehensive testing. As a significant component of the Phase III expansion project of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, this endeavour is progressing at full speed, with 80% of the interior decoration completed and over 6,000 workers working around the clock to meet deadlines.
T3 is a key livelihood project in Guangdong Province, featuring a "centralised main building + piers" configuration. It comprises a main building, as well as east and west piers, encompassing a total construction area of 683,300 square meters. The structure stands 42.95 meters tall, stretches 970 meters from north to south, and spans 592 meters from east to west. It consists of 2 to 5 above-ground floors and 1 underground floor (with partial 2 floors).
The design narrows the east and west wings, integrating the advantages of H-shaped and X-shaped layouts, resembling a "slim waist" on the ground. This configuration not only shortens the walking distance for passengers from the central area to boarding gates and transfers, enhancing travel comfort, but also allows for more independent stand operations, improving airside operational efficiency.
With the commissioning of the Phase III expansion project, Baiyun International Airport will enter the era of "three terminals and five runways". The annual passenger throughput capacity will exceed 120 million, with cargo and mail throughput reaching 3.8 million tons. The terminal's passenger throughput capacity will reach 140 million, and its cargo and mail throughput capacity will exceed 6 million tons, positioning the airport among the world's leading airports in terms of passenger and cargo handling capacities.
Soon, China's first open-air airport observation deck, the Baiyun International Airport T3 observation tower and viewing platform, will also open within the year, offering visitors a unique experience of panoramic aerial views and close-up aircraft observation.
