China's second-class protected animal spotted in GZ
Update: 2022-10-27     Source: Guangzhou Daily

Otter, listed as one of the country's second-class protected animals, was found by a guide at Nansha Wetland Park in Guangzhou, Guangdong province recently.

According to the guide, when he was on a boat last week, he saw an unidentified good swimmer in the river, which has a short nose, protruding eyes and whiskers on its jaw. He filmed it immediately and later sent the video to a forestry expert, who later distinguished that the animal was the Eurasian otter, scientific name Lutra lutra.

Otters are often considered as important biological indicators of a good wetland environment. Since the Eurasian otters have seldom been discovered in Guangzhou in the past 10 years, the unexpected finding this time shows that Guangzhou has achieved greater improvement in ecological protection and increased biodiversity.
