Theater opens to the public on Dragon Boat Festival
Update: 2023-06-25     Source: Newsgd.com

The Guangdong Arts Theater in Guangzhou's Tianhe District opened its doors to host a family open day on June 22, the day of the Dragon Boat Festival. Around 2,000 residents signed up for the event to see what really goes on behind the scenes, enjoy theatrical performances, and experience art education courses.

The open day included a wide range of activities in the fields of drama, dance, chorus and folk music, as well as calligraphy and paintings. The fun-filled activities were strung by a jigsaw, where participants, especially their kids, took part to gain first-hand experience and collect pieces for the jigsaw.

At the theater's lobby, participants were treated to a special summer drink—Luhe Leicha, or Hakka grinding tea from Luhe County, Shanwei. They also got to experience the Dragon Boat Festival customs by playing with dragon boat building blocks, DIY clay zongzi, making sachets and color painting moon-shaped fans.

Parents and kids flocked to the rehearsal spaces to watch the lecturers and students perform in chorus, dance, and drama up close. In the theater's VIP room, they enjoyed a lecture and performance on guzheng (a traditional Chinese stringed musical instrument) with Fu Na, a first-class national performer from the Guangdong National Orchestra.

In the outdoor square, a master in calligraphy and paintings worked with the public to improvise a scroll painting. The junior choir staged a flash mob performance, presenting the Uighur folk song "Lift Your Veil."

The open-day program was launched by the Guangdong Performing Arts Co., Ltd. and the Guangdong Arts Theater on the Dragon Boat Festival last year. It was well received by the public for offering various cultural services. In addition, the theater has developed several other campaigns for the public good, such as offering public welfare performances and going on tours in grassroots communities.
