The 2023 Fortune Global 500 list was unveiled recently. Two enterprises from Guangzhou’s Liwan District made it to the annual list. Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holdings Group (GIIHG) debuted on the list, ranking 414th with $36.5885 billion in revenue. Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited (GPHL) has been listed for the third consecutive year, ranking 426th this year, jumping 41 places from last year's ranking.

GIIHG comprehensively focuses on the three core industries of emerging materials, core components, and high-end equipment. A total of 82 high-tech enterprises, 63 specialized and new enterprises, and 11 scientific and technological innovation achievements have reached the domestic leading level. In August 2023, GIIHG was listed in the Fortune China 500, ranking 117th.

GPHL is a large enterprise group integrating science, industry, and trade, which has been engaged in research and development, production and sales of products related to medicine as a whole, such as Chinese patent medicine, chemical medicine, biological medicine, big health products, and medical equipment, as well as the provision of medical and health care services. In 2021, GPHL became the first company to enter the world's top 500 with traditional Chinese medicine as its primary business. It ranked 467th in the world's top 500 in 2022 and has ranked first on the list of the China’s Top 100 Pharmaceutical Companies for 11 consecutive years.

The Fortune Global 500 list is mainly based on annual operating revenue and is a significant ranking for evaluating the strength of global enterprises every year. The companies' combined revenue on this year's Fortune Global 500 list is about $41 trillion, and the threshold for entry (the minimum sales revenue) has jumped to $30.9 billion. Seven out of the 39 new and re-entered companies are Chinese enterprises, including GIIHG.
