Guangzhou East Railway Station will be upgraded to a high-speed railway station, adding seven platforms and eight lines, according to latest notice released by the railway authorities.
According to the upgrading scheme, the new station will be built with double-floor platforms, including 8 platforms and 14 lines on the ground and 6 platforms and 10 lines underground.
The station is connected with various subway lines including Line 1, Line 3, and Line 11 (under construction) and Line 18 (under construction).
The upgrade is part of the project from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Xintang Railway Station in Zengcheng district of Guangzhou. Running parallel to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen railway route, the new link line has a total length of 30 kilometers and a design speed of 200 km/h.
Furthermore, Xintang is also the railway station of the Guangzhou-Shanwei High-speed Railway. Upon completion, the high-speed railway network in downtown Guangzhou will be further improved.
