Update: 2024-02-26     Source: Yangcheng Evening News

In recent years, sci-tech innovation achievements have emerged in Guangzhou one after another, contributing to the high-quality development of strategic emerging industries. The Guangzhou Lab has been established; national large-scale scientific devices such as human cell lineage and cold seep ecosystem have been put into use; the added value of strategic emerging industries accounts for over 30% of the regional GDP; two industrial clusters, namely biomedicine and intelligent manufacturing equipment, have been recognized as national excellence; and the automobile productionranksfirst nationwide for five consecutive years.

"Biomanufacturing is becoming a new driving force for new productive forces." According to Professor Lin Ying at the School of Biology and Biological Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou owns a vast application market.

In recent years, Guangzhou has released a series of policy documents,includingMedium- and Long-term Development Plan of the Automobile Industry, Policy Measures to Promote the High-quality Development of the Biomedical Industry, and Implementation Opinions on Promoting High-quality Development of New Energy Storage Industry to promote the substantial improvement of these strategic emerging industries.

Lewwin Pharmaceutical Research Institute has built key technology platforms in cell and gene therapy drugs, new vaccines, ophthalmic drugs, pediatric drugs, and traditional Chinese medicine. It is the only research institute in Southern China that possesses GLP certification for ten categories of drugs issued by the NMPA.

In recent years, the business volume of Lewwin Pharmaceutical has grown at an average annual rate of over 50%, supporting the attainment of over 300 clinical approvals for Chinese medicine, chemical medicine, biological medicine, cell and gene therapy medicine by enterprises, universities, and research institutes, significantly contributing to the development of the biopharmaceutical industry in Guangzhou.

As the Chinese New Year celebration is over, the emergence of Sora has sparked the dawn of artificial intelligence. Dong Le, Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence, believes that the next breakthrough in the AI industry lies in building a general AI system with autonomous perceptual, cognitive, decision-making, learning, executive, and social collaboration capabilities. Compared to traditional technology of AI perception, general AI boasts lower customization cost, lower data computing power requirements, and better generalization performance.

"Intelligent manufacturing, vocational education, and resident healthcare are all advantageous industries in Guangzhou, all of which can be optimized when deeply integrated with AI," said Dong Le. He also cited the example of Guangzhou's automobile industry, stating that with the help of AI, intelligent management of the automobile industry chain and production parks can be reconstructed.

Guangzhou's ecosystem for industrial sci-tech innovation is constantly improving, bolstered by supportive policies and talent projects, contributing to six more academicians in Guangzhou and 48 national leading talents.

In addition, four new national-level intelligent manufacturing demonstration factories have opened; GAC Aion has been selected as the only global "lighthouse factory" for new energy vehicles; EHang's intelligent autonomous passenger aircraft has been awarded the world's first airworthiness certificate, and more. In 2023, Guangzhou has obtained 36,000 new invention patents, with a growth rate of 31.9%, and has been recognized as one of the first batch of national intellectual property protection demonstration zones and a national pilot region for innovative protection of trade secrets.
