The Nanzhong Expressway, connecting Nansha in Guangzhou to Zhongshan, opened at 3 PM on October 30. This infrastructure links the cities of Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Shenzhen, integrating various expressways and national highways, to enhance connectivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With the new expressway, travel time from Nansha to Zhongshan will be reduced to under 15 minutes, while the journey to Shenzhen will take less than 20 minutes.
The Nanzhong Expressway spans 32.4 kilometers, consisting of the main line and the Nansha Line of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. The main line measures 21.6 kilometers, starting from the Xinkeng Interchange at Nansha Port Expressway and ending at the Xinlong Interchange, where it connects with the Jiangmen-Zhongshan Expressway and the Guangzhou-Macao Expressway. The Nansha Line is 10.8 kilometers long, commencing at the Xinkeng Interchange and linking through the Wanqinsha Interchange to the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link.
The opening of the Nanzhong Expressway is expected to further optimize the transportation network between Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Shenzhen and to serve as crucial infrastructure supporting the expansion strategy for Guangzhou.
The entire project consists of bridge engineering, including nine interchanges, and is designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, featuring six lanes in both directions.
