Beijing Olympic Torch Relay Kicks off in Guangzhou Today

At 20:33 on the evening of May 6, 2008, the Air China Olympic 2008 Livery �C Fuwa flight, which carries the Olympic flame, landed sound and safe at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on schedule, unveiling the curtains of Guangzhou relay of Beijing Olympic flame. Luo Ou, Vice Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Government, Gu Shiyang, Vice Secretary General of Guangzhou Municipal Government, Zeng Xiaohong, Vice Director of the Guangdong Sports Bureau, Guan Weizhen, Vice Director of Guangzhou Sports Bureau and relevant members of torch relay organizing committees of both provincial and municipal level welcomed the arrival of Beijing Olympic flame at the airport.

The chartered Air China CA2008 Olympic 2008 Livery �C Fuwa flight departed from Haikou Meilan Airport at 19:35 on the evening of May 6. And at 20:33, the airplane slid slowly into the parking apron at the Baiyun Airport. Several minutes later, Zhang Ming, Executive Vice Director of BOGOC Torch Relay Center took the lead walking down the airplane. Following him are three blue-clad flame attendants carrying the flame lantern. The 60-people torch relay operation team walked straight out of the airport without any delay via No. 2 VIP Passage after meeting the welcoming crowd at gallery bridge gate. The flame operation team got on the chartered bus quickly and left for the Baiyun International Convention Center via the airport highway.

Today, the Beijing Olympic flame will be relayed in Guangzhou. The 208 torchbearers are to cover a distance of 40.82 kilometers, staring from the Baiyun International Convention Center, traversing the national-level tourist attractions of Baiyun Mountain Park, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Museum of the Nanyue King, Chen Clan Temple - a building featured with traditional Lingnan culture, the pedestrian street of Beijing Road, Tianzi Matou (dock), Haizhu Square and other cultural buildings and famous scenic spots, and finally arrive at the South Square of Tianhe Sports Center.
