Construction of more quarantine facilities is underway in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, as the city's number of new infections of COVID-19 continued to grow in recent days.
The building of some 395 plank houses, with 1,800 beds, was finished on November 18 in the city's Baiyun district, ready to be put into operation soon, according to the China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co Ltd.
The plank houses are just part of a large quarantine base, which is mainly used for isolation of people being transferred from high-risk areas.
The base, with a construction area of about 80,000 square meters, will provide about 63,000 beds in total, according to sources with the company.
"Houses were built well in accordance with high construction standards within a very short time," said Zeng Jiaming, a project manager with the China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group.
Several construction companies have also joined the building of quarantine facilities for people being transferred from high-risk areas.
As of November 18, the State-owned Guangzhou Municipal Construction Group Co Ltd. has also finished construction of 31,029 beds for quarantine across the city.
"Rooms for quarantine are fully covered with wireless network and equipped with independent bathrooms, beds, chairs and other living necessities," said Liu Yugui, vice general manager of the company.
In the Baiyun quarantine base, the company has also finished construction of 25 buildings of plank houses within just one week, starting November 9, which are capable of offering 2,840 beds in total, according to Liu.
"We are also building more beds in fangcang, or makeshift hospitals, in districts of Huadu, Panyu and Baiyun," he said during a press conference on November 18.
