The import and export value of cross-border e-commerce from Nansha Port in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, reached 100 billion yuan ($14.29 billion) in the first 10 months of this year.

The figure represented an increase nearly quadruple the same period the previous year, according to a statement released by Guangzhou Customs on November 24th.

It is the first time the cross-border e-commerce import and export value has exceeded 100 billion yuan at Nansha Port, located at the mouth of the Pearl River, the statement said.

Cross-border e-commerce exports from Nansha Port have reached 116 countries and regions around the world, with export volume to the nations and regions related to the Belt and Road Initiative exceeding more than 39 billion yuan from January to October, up year-on-year by a factor of 7.5, the statement said.

Cross-border e-commerce exports to Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership member states and regions also hit 30.36 billion yuan in the 10 months ending in October, up year-on-year by a factor of 9.1, it said.

Liu Qi, an officer with Guangzhou Customs, said the department has introduced a series of measures to further simplify procedures to support and help build Nansha port into an international hub of cross-border e-commerce in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and further promote the innovation and breakthrough development of the cross-border e-commerce industry in South China.

Now consumers can use their computers to place orders on the cross-border e-commerce shopping platforms in their offices or at home, and after the cross-border e-commerce commodities are automatically compared and quickly reviewed by the customs information systems, clearance procedures are quickly completed, Liu said.

"Cross-border e-commerce enterprises then immediately pack, ship and distribute the commodities, allowing consumers in Guangzhou's urban areas to receive commodities sent from the Nansha Comprehensive Bonded Area as soon as the same day," Liu said.
