Guangzhou reveals plans to establish more institutions of higher learning

Recently, according to documents issued by Guangzhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission, three new universities/campuses have been added to the list of the city's preliminary projects, namely Huangpu University, the second phase of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) (Guangzhou) and Guangzhou Jiao Tong University. 
The site of Huangpu University is located in Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City. Covering an area of 780,000 square meters, the campus will be equipped with buildings for specific purposes, including classroom buildings, office buildings, a library and a training center.

Another university, HKUST(Guangzhou), has caught widespread attention since its inauguration last September. The 1.13-square-kilometer campus is elaborately designed to accommodate over 10,000 students and members of staff while satisfying their demands for accommodation, teaching and scientific research, organizing sports events as well as art shows. The first phase of the campus, taking up an area of over 530,000 square meters (excludes basements), has been put into use since 2022.

Also to be built is Guangzhou Jiao Tong University, an institution based in Huangpu district with a floor space of more than 560,000 square meters. The project affiliated with a middle school and an elementary school is currently at the preparatory stage and scheduled to occupy 97,200 square meters in total.

Besides, constructions of other new campuses in Guangzhou are expected to start this year, including the second phase of Jinan University (Panyu Campus) and Guangzhou Nanyang Polytechnic College.
