Update: 2024-01-05     Source: GDToday

A total investment of about 7.5 billion yuan has set the stage for a new dock in Nansha Port. The Guangzhou Port Nansha Port International General Dock Project, a key construction project sponsored by the Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City, officially commenced recently.

This project has been included in the "Infrastructure Interconnection Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" issued by the National Development and Reform Commission.

Once completed, this project will improve the infrastructure service of Guangzhou Port, further fortifying the international competitiveness of the world-class port cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Located in the eastern sea area of Longxue Island, Nansha District, Guangzhou City and adjacent to Phase III terminal of Nansha Port, the project plans to construct two 100,000-ton and two 150,000-ton general-purpose berths, as well as 14 berths for 3,000-ton barges.. The terminal will be connected to the Nansha Port Railway and the planned logistics park in the rear.

After the completion of the project, the total length of the coastline of Nansha Port Area will exceed 16 kilometers, making it a modern port area with large scale, comprehensive service, and multimodal transport in South China.

Currently, the Nansha Port area of Guangzhou Port boasts 20 deep-water berths for containers, with an annual container throughput capacity exceeding 24 million TEUs. From January to Novemberin 2023, the Nansha Port area of Guangzhou Port achieved a 5 percent year-on-year growth in container throughput.

Moreover, various distinctive cargo types within the Guangzhou Port Group have also maintained a strong growth momentum. Foreign trade exports of automobiles, grains, and coal have all experienced significant increases. Furthermore, efforts have been made to expand specialty port businesses such as imported fruits, seafood, and frozen meat, positioning Nansha as a major port of entry for cherries and durians in China.
