A complete guide to Spring Festival flower fair
Update: 2020-01-08     Source: lifeofguangzhou

The Chinese New Year flower fair is one of the biggest events for Spring Festival celebrations in Guangzhou. The fairs open up the holiday season and get people into the festive spirit with colorful and aromatic flowers.

Visiting a flower fair is a typical tradition for Cantonese people, who pick and buy auspicious flowers and plants for good luck in the upcoming lunar New Year. The fairs, however, offer much more than flowers. Visitors can find gifts and souvenirs related to mouse (the Chinese zodiac animal of 2020), Spring Festival couplets, posters of the God of Fortune, and lunar New Year paintings at the markets.

Although the flower fairs are expected to be crowded, they still are a great way to dive into local customs. If you happened to be in Guangzhou and nearby cities during the fourth week of January, you should not miss the chance to visit one of the following flower fairs.
