Photo exhibition offers insights into Uruguay culture and history

In honor of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay, a series of celebratory activities are underway at the Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province and will run until July 20.

Themed "Treasure - Understanding Uruguay through Landscape and Literature", the activities include a free exhibition of Uruguayan photographs "Lights to the South" and a reading of the works of Uruguayan authors awarded Premio Miguel de Cervantes, the highest prize in Spanish literature.

The photo exhibition features works by Uruguayan photographer Flavio Toti Monzon. Captured during 16 months between 2000 and 2001, the photos show the stunning scenery of various nature reserves in Uruguay.

Facundo Fernandez Guerra, Acting Consul General of Uruguay in Guangzhou, introduced this event would provide an opportunity for the audience to catch a glimpse of Uruguay's literature and natural landscape. He also noted that intercultural exchanges can bring peoplecloser together, helping ustounderstand the traditions and history of other cultures.

Liu Ren, Secretary General of Guangdong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, addressed the opening ceremony. "Through events like today's, we hope to further enhance mutual understanding and promote future cooperation between the two countries," she said.

During the event, Li Yixuan, a Spanish teacher from the Hunan Normal University, was invited to guide the audience to read the works of three Uruguayan authors, namely, Juan Carlos Onetti, Ida Vitale, and Cristina Peri Rossi. All of them were awarded Premio Miguel de Cervantes.
