Sculpture exhibition a great idea to learn more about Cantonese culture

If you like sculpture or want to learn more about local culture in Guangzhou, here is a not-to-be-missed exhibition. The Guangzhou Sculpture Academy Thematic Exhibition, with the theme of "The Artistic Making of Intangible Cultural Heritage", is underway at the Calligraphy Garden (翰墨园) in the Guangzhou Cultural & Art Centre from now on till October 30.

A total of 79 sculptures are on display, including 65 being exhibited on the shelf indoors and 14 outdoors. The artworks cover folk literature, traditional music, dance, opera, sports, acrobatics, recreations, handicrafts, fine arts, and folk-customs. 

In addition, two events featuring kite making and clay creation will be held at the exhibition venue on October 21 and 29,respectively. 

The exhibition is co-hosted by the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau and the Guangdong Artists Association, and co-organized by the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy and the Guangzhou Cultural & Art Centre. 

A statue shows Bruce Lee's iconic posture. 

A sculpture features Nanquan Boxing, or southern-style kung fu. 

A sculpture features shuttlecock kicking, a traditional folk game which is popular among Guangzhou locals. 

A group of sculptures features visiting a flower fair, one of the most important traditions for the Spring Festival in Guangzhou.
