Ticket giveaway | Star-studded shows to grace Guangzhou stage

The 134th Canton Fair is in full swing in Guangzhou, and the stages in the city have ushered in a series of spectacular performances around this period. In addition to business negotiations, don't forget to enjoy the artistic vibe here!

Musical: Sanxingdui

With archaeologists as the protagonists, this musical tells the story between two different periods, the ancient kingdom of Shu and the modern day. Xun, bianzhong, guqin, suona, and other traditional Chinese musical instruments will be performed together with electronic music during the show, offering a special audio enjoyment.

Originally discovered in the late 1920s, the Sanxingdui Ruins have been dubbed as one of the world's greatest archaeological findings of the 20th century. At the Guangzhou Opera House, audiences will see replicas of representatives of Sanxingdui relics such as sacred bronze trees, golden masks, and bronze standing figurines.

Mixed-media live animation theatreRoots

"1927" is a British theatre company producing and performing mixed-media live animation theatre. In the show of Roots, rarely-told folktales of tyrannical ogres, magic bird's hearts, and fat cats will be brought to life with 1927's signature fusion of handcrafted animation and storytelling, with a live score involving Peruvian prayer boxes, jawbones (Quijada), violins and musical saws.

Time: 19:30, November 9 to 10; 14:30 & 19:30, November 11-12

Venue: Experimental Theatre, Guangzhou Opera House (广州大剧院实验剧场)

Duration: 63 minutes (without intermission)

Language: English (and a few French lines) with Chinese subtitles

Echoes of Life: Piano Recital of Alice Sara Ott

German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott is going to present Chopin's 24 preludes interspersed with short piano pieces by composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. The presentation will be accompanied by a full-length video installation designed by architect Hakan Demirel, taking us on a virtual journey through the microcosm of maestro classics.

2023 Guangzhou Jazz Festival

From October 28 to November 23, the 2023 Guangzhou Jazz Festival will be held at the Xinghai Concert Hall, featuring six concerts performed by over 40 jazz musicians at the Symphony Hall. Grammy winners and Grammy-nominated artists including Snarky Puppy, Eddie Daniels, Dave Weckl, and Eric Marienthal, as well as many other renowned musicians like T-SQUARE and Stacey Kent, will present performances in various styles, such as jazz, rock, funk, soul music, world music, and pop music.

The jazz festival will also offer residents an immersive and diverse experience of jazz culture. A "Jazz Open Day" event is scheduled to be held on November 4, featuring a concert on the lawn, band performances, a sharing meeting, a jazz workshop, a bazaar and more. Furthermore, several outdoor concerts will be presented at some city landmarks in Guangzhou, such as the Canton Tower, Yongqing Fang, Peal River Park and Baiyun Mountain.
