A glimpse into the splendid world of women's ethnic attire and bridal gowns
Update: 2023-12-25     Source: GDToday

An exhibition showcasing the ethnic costumes of women in the Pearl River Delta region is currently underway at the Guangdong Museum. The exhibition displays the elaborate costumes and bridal gowns of 23 indigenous ethnic groups residing in the region.

Some of the exquisite attire are often used as women's bridal gowns during their weddings. With myriad designs, unique textures of fabrics, visually appealing colors, mysterious and distinctive patterns, and unparalleled craftsmanship, these costumes convey good wishes of women and their loved ones and sustain the cultural heritage passed down through generations.

The exhibition features the clothing of ethnic groups such as the Miao, Zhuang, Yi, and Yao. It showcases traditional clothing-making tools, raw materials, accessories, and crafting techniques. It also explores contemporary fashion garments that incorporate elements of traditional ethnic attire, spurring reflection on cultural fusion and innovation in the field of ethnic fashion.

Furthermore, the Guangdong Museum plans a series of diverse offline activities as a follow-up to the exhibition, including workshops on silver jewelry crafting and tie-dye techniques. These activities aim to offer the audience a more immersive experience in appreciating the aesthetic allure and craft wisdom embedded in ethnic attire.
