Treasures from mysterious ancient Zhongshan State displayed in Guangzhou
Update: 2024-03-18     Source: GDToday

The exhibition "Mighty Ancient Zhongshan State: Treasures from the Zhongshan State" was officially inaugurated on March 15 at the King's Tomb exhibition area of Nanyue King Museum in Guangzhou. It showcases 175 pieces/sets of artifacts from the ancient Zhongshan State, including some displayed for the first time.

Situated in the south-central part of present-day Hebei Province, the Zhongshan State was established by the northern nomadic Xianyu tribe during the Eastern Zhou period (771–256 BC). Due to multiple rises and falls in contention with other vassal states, frequent capital relocations, and vague historical records, the Zhongshan State was once a "mysterious kingdom" for over 2,000 years.

The archaeological excavation of the Zhongshan State stands as one of China's major archaeological discoveries in the 20th century. This exhibition, focusing on those key archaeological findings, showcases the splendid achievements of the Zhongshan State in politics, economy, military, culture, and more.

The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections: archaeological excavations, state history, military, and civilization. Through bronze, gold, and silver artifacts, jade objects, lacquerware, as well as digital displays, visitors can grasp the historical process of northern ethnic minorities gradually integrating into Han culture, gaining insight into the evolution of a unified multi-ethnic Chinese nation.

This exhibition is jointly organized by the Nanyue King Museum, the Hebei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, and the Hebei Museum.
