On February 24, also the Lantern Festival day, a Song-style guqin concert titled "What is Qin" will be staged at the Guangzhou Opera House, greeting audiences with a feast of traditional Chinese music.
Made up of dozens of young performers, Zi De Guqin Studio has gone viral on social media and video platforms with stylish music videos, in which performers in traditional Chinese attire showcase innovative interpretation of music by using Chinese traditional instruments such as the seven-string guqin, pipa, and the Chinese bamboo flute.
The upcoming concert is one of Zi De Guqin Studio's dynasties series concerts. Its repertoire includes traditional old songs, adaptations of ancient tunes, and new original compositions. Meanwhile, the performance will combine Chinese folk music with orchestral music, and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra will record accompaniments for some pieces.
Furthermore, the performers will be clad in costumes from the Song Dynasty (960-1276), with their makeup and styling drawing inspiration from various murals, ancient paintings, textual records, and artifacts in the Dynasty.
Through diverse musical elements, innovative stage design, and contemporary musical formats, this concert aims to allow more young people to experience the essence and charm of traditional Chinese culture.
On the day of the performance, the Guangzhou Opera House will also organize a Lantern Festival bazaar, sending warm holiday wishes to the audience.
